Outlive Your Life - Max Lucado

Max Lucado review I received the book “Outlive Your Life - You Were Made to Make A Difference” a couple of weeks ago. Max Lucado, a well known author of both books for children and adults wants to challenge believers in this book with the charge: “He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven, but here on earth. Let's live our lives in such a way that the world will be glad we did.”
Full of great examples and sound bites, this is a fast read even for an average reader. Unfortunately my brain does not like this sound bite style of writing where most sentences are less than 5 words long and many are incomplete.

After a while I got tired of reading and found myself skimming. Still the premise is good so I don’t want to turn you off on the book, just know that it’s not one to challenge you to the depths of your being.

I did find myself in several chapters finding snippets where I’d think to myself, “that was pretty good. I should write that down.” But for the rest I found the book a bit lacking...Good but lacking.

It’s too bad because I really wanted to love this book. I’ve been a fan of Lucado’s children’s books since my girls were young. We read these two books:

and

which are sweet books for the 4-8 year old crowd. This is the first book that I’ve read by Lucado that’s written specifically for adults so perhaps I was expecting more.

So, all in all, I’d give this book 3-3.5 stars. Hopefully your church library will have it or borrow it from a friend.

I received this book for free as part of the Booksneeze.com blogger program in exchange for a review. I was not compensated in any way for my review nor am I required to leave positive reviews
